
Frederic A Melius, MD, FACOG
Dr. Melius has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology and Urogynecology in the Madison area since completing his residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in 1991. During his senior year of residency, Dr. Melius was the Chief Resident and recipient of the Ben M. Peckham award for outstanding senior resident. After completing his training, Dr. Melius joined the practice then called Roley, Anderson & Torhorst. He became a partner of Roley, Anderson & Melius in 1993. In 1996, that practice was merged into the University of Wisconsin department of Obstetrics and Gynecology where Dr. Melius served as clinical assistant professor and Co-Director of Women's Health before leaving in the spring of 2001 to form his current group with Dr.'s Schurr, Cardwell and Bergeron.
Dr. Melius grew up in the Twin Cities and the mountains of Wyoming. He received a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Wyoming before attending Creighton University School of Medicine where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine. Dr. Melius is a Board Certified Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of The American Urogynecologic Society and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Melius is Chairman of the Department of Ob and Gyn at Meriter Hospital and sits on the Meriter Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Melius is also the recipient of Madison Magazine's Top Doc Awards for 2005 and 2006.
Dr. Melius is committed to the highest standard of evidence-based care in all areas of women's health with special interest in:
- All areas of geriatric gynecology.
- Diagnosis and treatment of female incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. He is certified to perform the minimally invasive TVT procedure for incontinence.
- Minimally invasive management of abnormal uterine bleeding and pelvic pain/endometriosis utilizing hysteroscopic and laparoscopic techniques.
- High and low risk obstetrics and obstetric related disorders.
Dr. Melius and his wife Connie live with their children in Middleton. As a family they enjoy swimming, boating, tennis, skiing and bicycling. Dr. Melius is active in his children's youth sports. He is also the Medical Director for KindredHearts Assisted Living Centers and sits on the Legislative Advisory Committee for the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association.
